What Would Julia Do : Rebecca Thomas

The photographer Rebecca Thomas first met and took a picture of Princess Julia in 2007. In the intervening years she has developed a special relationship with her favourite subject, following Julia through her travails in the decadent chaos of London nightlife. Julia once claimed that she had not spent a single night in since before Punk. She took to Rebecca immediately. -Julia was my proper introduction to London,- says Rebecca. -She became something of a stalker- says Julia. -But I embraced Rebecca.

Collated over 64 pages and assembled in the form of a documentary photographic essay, What Would Julia Do is Rebeccas documentation of one of the most adored, immaculately turned-out and intriguing characters of the London night-time; it forms a tasteful travelogue through the demimonde of a very special, peoples Princess.

During their time spent together Julia bumped into friends, old and new, including key characters from Londons fashion fraternity James Long, Sibling, Louise Gray, Pam Hogg, Lulu Kennedy, Judy Blame, Jonathan Saunders, Ryan Lo, Stephan Jones, Todd Lynn and Richard Nicoll. Others that have been caught on camera include Duggie Fields, Bruce le Bruce, Tim Blanks, Gemma Cairney, Sue Tilley, James Jeanette Maine, Tim Noble, Dinos Chapman, Harriet Verney, Holly Johnson, Jimmy Sommerville and Boy George.
